Something not right?

Description

A small lake about 45 minutes east of the town of Villa Cerro Castillo. A very well-maintained campground but unfortunately without wifi or power. Every site has covered shelters, multiple tables and a giant stack of firewood. Ranger is very friendly and can help start a fire for the shower and the ranger will bring more firewood if you need. Showers were hot but wood-fired.

I camped here for a night it was full of caterpillar but you can use the common are (a little house) to stay for a night because we let a window open, I recommend to clean the area will cloro and let fresh air circulate for an hour just in case of hantavirus.

Report Check-In

The campground is currently closed (Feb 2024) because of a massive catarpillar infestation. The rangers let people sleep here at no cost, but the caterpillars are everywhere. Facility’s worked though. Water not potable, filtering needed

Report Check-In

when we were there it was full full full of caterpillars!!! everywhere: the shelters, the toilets, the floor... it was quite disgusting! just to know for the next ones to stay here.

Report Check-In

Excellent place to have a camp or sleep in your van. Places are clean and organized, with available wood for fires (MAKE FIRE ONLY SPECIFIC SITES). There is a park ranger station but not very active. At least when we visited the place (Sunday) nobody was around. There are some trails to do and you can reach the lagoon very easily. ATTENTION: lots of caterpillars hanging from the trees and falling all around the camping, that’s why we didn’t stay to sleep.

Report Check-In

No idea when the high season is but in the middle of February all was quiet. No rangers, no charge. We were thankful for the little cabins, definitley added a couple of extra degrees on top of the tent. Toilets adequate, didn’t bother collecting wood to heat the shower. Fantastic stop.

Water not potable.

Report Check-In

Open at the moment, rangers wandering around but no charge. Only toilets open (with paper!) but no shower. Pleasant leafy campingg areas with heaps of space, tables and mini huts or shelters (we slept in hut, did not bother putting the tent up). Pleasant buena vista walk to lookout over lake or veer off to Cerro 4 - steep hike up shaly mountain (didn't get to very top as too windy on our visit) with wonderful views - good hour up.

nice camping spot. as cycilist no problem to enter in off season but much snow during that time of the year

Report Check-In

The gate was locked when we were there, no chance to get to the Camping Spot. Also nobody around to ask.

Report Check-In

Nice place to stay on the way to Coyhiaque. We camped one night there for free as the camping was closed, we saw no rangers. We could use one of the cabins to cook and store our backpack and get water from the taps.

Report Check-In

The campground is now closed because of low-season. Closed means FREE (ranger told us) but no services. You got access to the cabañas and the water. You can make a woodfire but it would not heat your water for showers as the system is disconnected. Very nice indeed !

Report Check-In

Nice camping area to stay one night. There is a small Lagoon and a couples hiking trail to do. I recommend this place

Report Check-In

Well maintained campsite. 9k for non Chilean (4.5k local). Each site has water access and covered area for cooking and shelter. Wood fired hot shower available in evening. Clean toilets. Well sheltered spots from wind.

Report Check-In

buen lugar para acampar, limpio y con baños en excelente estado, recomendable

Report Check-In

Paid 9k for camping, plus 10k park entrance which was very expensive but only option at the top of the pass. Sites are well equipped with water and covered areas and benches. Hot showers are wood heated and we’re indeed hot. No bins for rubbish which for the price would be expected. Nice hike up to a viewpoint takes half an hour or so each way.

Report Check-In

Camping in the wood on 975 m. altitude with large places. Every place has its own tap, roof shelter with picknick table. ranger made the fire for the douche. paid 9000 pp incl park entrance.

Report Check-In

We stayed for the night outside the camp, because it was closed. We entered to the restroom inside the camp and it were very clean. We went to the lake but can’t go further

Report Check-In

Schöner, sauberer Platz. Nette Wanderung auf einem Rundweg.

Report Check-In

Closed out of season. We arrived around 7.30pm and entered with a car, but within 5 minutes the rangers came and sent us away.

Report Check-In

Same as conaf campground. See our comments. It is per 1st of November 2019 13.000 pp for foreigners

Report Check-In

Happy the warden let us stay. We had to pay 6000pp while campground was still closed. and it will change per 1st of November to 13.000 pp for foreigners.

Report Check-In

No rangers in the evening when I passed, no showers and toilets doors locked. 5 sheltered sites, 2 of which are little cabins. I built my MSR hubba hubba in one of them.

Water is not potable, no Entel signal. It's 1000m high and in the shade, so quite cold.

Report Check-In

Nice campground just off Carretera, good shelter from wind in trees. Small shelters at some sites with benches and tables. Toilets and woodfired showers. Closed for season when I came but rangers let me camp free of charge. Toilets and showers were locked and water at site off but was able to fill up at tap outside rangers office. Rain was forecast so I slept in one of the shelters on a raised bench/platform and brought my bike and gear all inside and was quite cosy.

Report Check-In

Shelters and picnic tables, hot showers at evening but not available in the morning. overall, its a fine place. 6000 clp

Report Check-In

Shaded Conaf campsite with hot shower in the evening , drinkable water by each shelter. 6000 per person. Nice. About 45 km before Castillo.

Report Check-In

Marked in maps me as Cerro Castillo NP Camping. Nice setting in a forest. Toilets and shower (hot from 7pm till late) clean. 6000cp pP. Nice walks from campground.

Report Check-In

Very clean facilities. Very nice hot shower when wood fired water heater is on. Price is 6000 clp. Private concession since November 2018. Hard to compete against a state subsidized Conaf campground. In my opinion justified. Road noise a bit noticeable.

Report Check-In

Update... 6000 per person. (maybe new ownership?). Was very clean and nice campground but no drinking water and had to take rubbish away. Could hear road noise.

In our opinion not much benefit over wild camping, particularly considering the price.

Report Check-In

The administration is across the street from the site itself. We went to ask about payment but they said it was free that night because the guy who looks after the site wasn’t there. We didn’t have access to the shower because it was locked, but otherwise everything was as described. The sites themselves are nice enough with tables and refugios, but not much of a view and you can still hear the odd vehicle because you’re still fairly close to the carretera.

Report Check-In

on iOverlander you find two icons but it is the same Conaf campground. Nice spot. We hope for warm showers tonight and we got it.

Report Check-In

Very peaceful camping with covered shelters. No fires allowed. Clean bathrooms with flush toilets. There is a fire-heated hot water tank for showers but we did not use it. 5,000 CLP per tent Beautiful location

Report Check-In

We stayed here in May (so out of the season) but it was still opened (in comparison to most of the other campings). 5000 cl pesos to stay for 1 night. Water is warmed with stove and was very good! Certainly because we were the only people there ao we had all the warm water for ourselves. 1,5 hour was enough to heat up the whole watertank. Very well maintained campong ground. Not allowed to make to make fire but we made a fire in the stove for the hot water :)

Report Check-In

great spot to spend the night. wood fire heated warm water, flushing toilets and lots.of little shelters scattered through the camp ground.
rangers are very friendly, they lit a fire for the water and clean the bathroom after we arrived. we paid 5000 for two people

Report Check-In

Nice place. 5000 for 2 people, one night. Each pitch has a shelter. No WiFi or power. Hot water in the evening.

Report Check-In

5000 pesos per site. We could park our rig on a level spot and enjoyed the forest. Some sites have cabanas to protect for the wind. No fires allowed. Restrooms are clean.

Report Check-In

nice place, quiet and clean. you can hear the the road from here but nothing disturbing. ladies bathrooms are old and not working right but the men's are new and fine. i suppose ladies will get a new bathroom soon. 3000 per person for foreigners. there is a nice little lake where you can observe the wild life.

Report Check-In

not bad, but not so good for big rigs.

Report Check-In

We stayed here in December 2016. The campground was completely empty, which was very nice. We very much enjoyed being able to take a hot shower - even if it did require heating up the water with the wood-burning stove first. there was plenty of already-chopped wood available. The little huts where a welcome addition to the campsites as it was quite windy and cold that night. We actually set up our tent inside - it barely fit but it was perfect. Overall a pretty good place to stay the night on the road

Report Check-In

Good place with wood fired shower and covered seating areas with fire pit 5,000 per site rangers collect in morning

5 campsites. All are large with shelters, firepits, bins, water and picnic tables. Central toilet block with hot showers (wood fired). Water pressure was low when we were there. This campsite has the trailhead for a nice walk into the hills. We paid CH$2,000 per person. Others paid CH$5,000 for a site.

Report Check-In

Each campsite has a shelter, picnic table and firewood provided. The shower’s hot water is wood-fired.
