Donate time

iOverlander is an almost completely volunteer run project. We are always looking for volunteer moderators and developers. If you have spare time and would like to help, send us an email at [email protected].

iOverlander has a system of autogenerated tasks. A task is created every time a major place correction is made, a new place is added, a potential duplicate is found, or a user reports a problem. Our moderation team helps by completing these tasks. They check new places to make sure they meet our criteria, that the location is correct and that it is not a duplicate entry. Moderators also help resolve user reported problems for correcting mistake entries, removing illegal camp spots and many other issues.

Although this is a tedious job, it is critically important for keeping the iOverlander database neat and clean. Whether you are on the road, about to leave on a trip, or just returned home, if you have an hour or two a week to dedicate, please consider volunteering. You’ll need a computer and access to the internet to complete tasks. And we ask that new moderators commit to completing 100 tasks per week. Initially completing 100 tasks may take a few hours, but you will quickly learn our system and each set should not take more than an hour to do.

For more detailed information, please send us an email and we’ll get you our moderator guides to review: [email protected].

If you didn’t notice, there’s a lot of code involved in making our apps work! If you have developer skills and can donate some time to get new features implemented, we’d love to hear from you.

We ask our developer volunteers to contribute 10 hours per week of work, because of the time involved in setup and training. Our website and backend are built with Ruby on Rails. Our current app is in Xamarin, but our new app will be in React Native. If you have experience in these languages (or are willing to learn), please end us an email: [email protected].
